A Howard Creek man was arrested last week on grand theft charges relating to the theft of equipment from his former employer.

Earl Davis Parker, 38, of Howard Creek was arrested for grant theft and was conditionally released after his first court appearance last week.

Gulf County Sheriff’s Office investigator Les Greenwood began an investigation into the theft of equipment from Hallmark Management, Inc., which manages apartment complexes in Wewahitchka and Port St. Joe.

Greenwood discovered that Parker had been terminated by Hallmark in February and had taken equipment valued at $597 home. Management requested he return the equipment, but Parker failed to do so and Greenwood found that he had pawned the equipment last year while employed with Hallmark.

Reckless driver complaint leads to meth arrest

A 9-1-1 call about a reckless driver led to the arrest of a Wewahitchka man on drug charges.

John Milton Guffey, 36, of Wewahitchka was arrested last week by Gulf County Sheriff’s Office deputies on charges of refusing to take a DUI chemical test and for possession of methamphetamine.

The GCSO received a 9-1-1 call about a reckless driver running several vehicles off State 22 near Wewahitchka.

As a deputy responded, a federal agent in an unmarked patrol vehicle witnessed the reckless driving incidents and initiated a traffic stop.

Deputy Ken Starnes arrived on the scene along with investigators and conducted a DUI check. Guffey refused to submit to an approved chemical test and a search found him in possession of methamphetamine.

Guffey was conditionally released after his first court appearance.
