The cause of death was confirmed as drowning on Monday by the Medical Examinerís Office of the 14th Judicial Circuit.

Sometime before 11 a.m. ET Dickensí wife became concerned when he had not returned from a swim in the gulf off Higgins Street in Indian Pass and initially could not see him.

However, she eventually saw her husband floating in the water and ran to the road to flag down resident Victor Ramos.

Ramos assisted in pulling Dickens from the water and began CPR. Dickensí wife called 9-1-1 around 11 a.m., said Gulf County Sheriff Joe Nugent.

First responders from the South Gulf County Fire Department took over in minutes and assisted in moving Dickens to a spot where paramedics could pick up the CPS.
