I used Sacred Heart at Port St. Joe one Sunday night after an abscessed tooth appeared on a Sunday afternoon. By 2 a.m., I was in so much pain, that I felt it necessary to go to the ER. I woke my husband, told him to dress and come in after me, as I could not wait, and knew that I would be unable to drive home. We live 12 miles from PSJ. He dressed, came in, and was in the waiting area about 10 minutes when I came out, and we headed home. We were there less than an hour.
When I received my bill, I noticed that there were two services on there that I did not receive. I've addressed this with Sacred Heart twice, and they refuse to make an adjustment, so I just let it go....UNTIL....a few weeks ago a friend was stung by a stingray and had to go into the ER for treatment. I cautioned her via text to review her bill, which she did before leaving, and there were many errors...so many, in fact, that by the time it was adjusted, it was less than half of the original amount.
This made me pursue my charges again. After many phone calls, and promises of phone calls that came weeks after promised, I've been told no adjustments would be made.
It's my opinion that a ride to Gulf Coast will be in my best interest next time, since BMC has now "leased" themselves to Sacred Heart, but just want you to be aware to check your bills, line by line, take notes in the ER if you can, or have someone take notes about services received. Question everything.
I am in no way implying that they do not provide excellent service, they do! BUT, if they have billing and/or coding issues, this needs to be addressed!
