Two Wewahitchka women were arrested by the Gulf County Sheriff’s Office on burglary charges.

Melinda Gail Kelsoe, 38, and Merry Regina Linton, 46, both of Wewahitchka were arrested early Sept. 15 after being observed leaving a vacant residence.

Deputies Joel Oquendo and Chip Bailey observed a suspicious vehicle leaving the residence. Oquendo maintained visual surveillance of the vehicle while Bailey conducted a security check of the residence, according to a report from the GCSO.

Bailey found an open door and deputies believed the residence to have been burglarized.

Oquendo stopped the vehicle which was occupied by Kelsoe and Linton. The deputies, through additional investigation, determined the women had burglarized the resident and had the stolen property in their possession.

Property worth approximately $500 was recovered.

The women were arrested on burglary and grand theft charges. Kelsoe was released on $6,000 bond. Linton’s bond was set at $5,000.
