After a year break, the fourth edition of the Forgotten Coast Wounded Warriors Weekend will be held May 14-18 in Port St. Joe and will welcome veterans/service members who have been critically wounded in the line of duty, primarily those who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

For three years, Wounded Warriors have visited from all parts of the country to enjoy the Forgotten Coast and receive the support and appreciation of the community.

At this year’s event, 20 warriors, 20 caretakers and three mentor warriors will be honored over a five day period.

“We’re showing support for the great people of the military who are serving our country,” said Charlie W. Weston, president of the not-for-profit organization and retired U.S. Army Colonel. “They’ve had life-changing events and it’s our opportunity as a community to step up and show our appreciation.”

Warriors will be treated to lodging in WindMark Beach, participate in an offshore fishing tournament, and will be honored in a Heroes Parade through Port St. Joe.

The highlight event will be the grand banquet at the Centennial Building featuring distinguished speakers.

While in town, the Warriors will have the opportunity for sightseeing tours and plenty of time to enjoy everything that Gulf County has to offer.

Also on the organizing committee are Brenda Garth, George W. Duren and Charlotte Pierce.

“It’s important that people recognize what the military does for them,” said Weston. “It’s a hard life to live.”

Weston said that the FCWW event has been successful in the past due to the support and generosity of the community.

The committee is currently seeking volunteers to make monetary donations or provide transportation, merchandise for raffle, servers for meals and boat captains for the tournament.

A letter will be sent to local vendors with more information and how to pledge support for the event. Please email psj.fcww@gmail.com with any questions.
