Dear Editor,

If you have been following the Olympics you no doubt have heard the heartwarming story of the American snowboarder attempting to rescue the many stray puppies in Sochi.  Sadly this situation of homeless animals exists around the world. Port St Joe is no different.  Spaying and neutering is the only answer in addressing the overpopulation problem.

Once again our very own Animal Shelter on Tenth Street is offering free spay and neuter surgery for our pets and strays. Now there is no excuse for having unaltered animals in our midst. Nor should we tolerate neighbors who allow their animals to roam free which contributes to the indiscriminate breeding.

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." M. Gandhi.

Respectfully,
