The Florida/Alabama Challenge last week was just that for the Port St. Joe Jr./Sr. High School softball team.


The Florida/Alabama Challenge last week was just that for the Port St. Joe Jr./Sr. High School softball team.



The Lady Tiger Sharks lost four games over the two-day tournament at Frank Brown Park in Panama City Beach, losing three games by two or fewer runs.



The Lady Tiger Sharks fell 4-3 to Fort Walton Beach, 9-7 to Milton, 6-1 to Yulee and 8-6 to Monteverde Academy.



Port St. Joe was 2-4 entering the week, which includes the home opener at 5 p.m. (junior varsity) and 7 p.m. Friday.



Against Fort Walton Beach, Stephanie Brinkmeier suffered her first pitching loss of the season, going the distance while allowing four runs on five hits and striking out nine.



Shannon Pridgeon had a triple and Kesley Miles, Brittany King, Callie Fleshren, Hal Leigh Keels, and Addison Rice each added a single.



Against Milton, Brinkmeier was again on the mound, pitching the distance and allowing nine runs on 10 hits while walking three and striking out one.



The Lady Tiger Sharks pounded out 13 hits, with King leading the way with a home run, two doubles, a single and two RBIs.



Pridgeon had three hits, Rice two and Keels, Ashley Babcock, Christian Laine and Fleshren each added a hit.



Brinkmeier was the losing pitcher as the action picked up on Saturday against Yulee.



Brinkmeier allowed six runs on 11 hits, striking out three and walking three.



Pridgeon, Laine and Brinkmeier had two hits each and Fleshren singled.



Last and final game of the tournament was against Monteverde Academy.  Savannah Miles started on the mound for Port St. Joe against Monteverde Academy. She pitched four innings before Brinkmeier came on in relief in the fifth with the Lady Tiger Sharks up 6-3.



Monteverde, however, struck for five runs in the fifth and Miles came back on to finish the game.



Laine was 4 for 4, Miles had two hits and Brinkmeier added a solo home run to lead Port St. Joe.



King, Miles and Rice each had a hit.
