The seventh annual Bow Wow Bash masquerade party held Saturday at the Centennial Building was once again a success, with 255 guests and an estimated $30,000 or more raised for the St. Joseph Bay Humane Society.

The Bow Wow Bash is the Humane Society’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and is an essential event for the organization, which relies on fundraising and donations to keep the doors open.

“We rely almost exclusively on this fundraiser and donations to fund our operations,” said Humane Society board member Sandi Christy. “The funding we get from the county and (City of Port St. Joe) is about 20 percent of what it costs to operate the Humane Society for the year.”

Proceeds from the event also go toward funding for an annual free spay and neuter program for Gulf County pet owners.
