The music series will run each Thursday in the month at Sunset Park

Every September for the past decade the Mexico Beach Community Development Council has hosted Music in the Park, which brings free live music to Sunset Park every Thursday of the month.

This year’s festivities will commence Sept. 3 with local group Konkrete Soul. Each event is free and every Thursday the shows begin at 6 p.m. CT and run until 8 p.m.

“It’s a very exciting lineup this year,” said CDC executive director Kimberly Shoaf. “We’re bringing back some crowd favorites.”

Back by popular demand, Panama City group Heat and Zydeco Gents will perform on Sept. 10, Flabbergasted on Sept. 17 and the all-female group The Crickets will take the stage Sept. 24 to round out the month.

Attendees of the family-friendly event are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, beach blankets and coolers to enjoy the festivities and every Thursday the Mexico Beach Volunteer Fire Department will be on hand to serve up hamburgers and hotdogs to raise funds for purchasing and upgrading equipment.

“It’s a great opportunity to sit on the beach and watch the sun go down,” Shoaf said. “September offers some of the prettier sunsets in Mexico Beach and allows us to capitalize on such a great location.”

Shoaf said many lodging partners have shifted over to fall rates and encouraged potential visitors to come and enjoy the free music and a long weekend in the community.

Sunset Park is located next to the El Governor Motel on U.S. Hwy 98 in Mexico Beach. Parking is available at the El Governor and across the street.
