Workers Bear the Brunt
Workers Bear the Brunt
Dear Editor:
Citi-group announced they would be eliminating as many as 53,000 jobs. U.S. automakers have announced massive layoffs. Everywhere you look major corporations are reducing personnel. It seems that the workers that have or will be eliminated are the "worker bees". You know the people that actually do the work and produce something of value. On the other hand, the executives in charge continue to receive enormous salaries, and benefit packages. Would Citi-group be better off firing 53,000 low level employees that contributed to what ever minimal revenue was realized or firing the top ten executives that led to the company's current failures? The most disturbing aspect of this is that Citi-group and all of the other companies firing their workers are going to be the same that ask for taxpayer bailouts. Taxpayers include: you, me and the workers that they are firing.
