Here is Hoping
When asked to come to the podium at the onset of a county commission meeting recently, State Attorney Glenn Hess said that the county would be receiving a lot more attention from his office in the future.
This space has long advocated a grand jury examination of various aspects of county government, from how the jail operates to bidding procedures to how contracts are awarded and dollars spent in the absence of a work order system.
Despite repeated campaign promises, Hess's predecessor Steve Meadows only made the trip to Gulf County for a grand jury once.
We hope Mr. Hess is a man of his word and that in the coming months a grand jury will be empanelled that will, as grand juries are able as few other levers of government, thoroughly examine county operations.
Taxpayers could use the help, Mr. Hess.
