Gulf County Community Traffic Safety Outreach Program
The Gulf County Board of County Commissioners in partnership with the Gulf County Sheriff’s Office and Gulf County Community Traffic Safety Team/Transportation Committee, is offering a new, NO COST, Teen Driver Program to all Gulf County students who are between the ages of 14 and 15. The goal of this new program is to educate teens of Gulf County on the rules of driving to prepare them prior to receiving their learner’s permits, to teach them the dangers of aggressive and distracted driving, and to reinforce the benefits of seatbelt use. These four issues have been found to be the major causes of teen involved crashes, injuries and fatalities. This program is free of cost and is five hours in duration. The program consists of classroom instruction, videos, power point presentations and hands on time during which the students will actually drive a golf cart through a course to learn the rules of the road and how dangers can be avoided. Parents, we urge you to make sure that your teen drivers take advantage of this program. It’s only five hours of their time, it’s free, and it can help to ensure their safety. All participants will receive certificates of completion.
Parents can register their teens at the Gulf County Grant Office (Towan) at the Gulf County Courthouse Complex, Robert M. Moore Administration Building, 1000 Cecil G. Costin, Sr. Blvd., Room 309, Port St. Joe, Florida or at the Gulf County Sheriff’s Office (Margaret), Gulf County Courthouse Complex, 1000 Cecil G. Costin, Sr. Blvd., Port St. Joe, Florida.
