Say it isn't so!

Dear Editor:

Is it really illegal to give back to the county from which you take?

The quested posed to the Board of County Commissioners as to the legalities of each commissioner giving back 24 percent of their income to show they feel the pain along with the rest of the county got everyone’s attention. The pain showed clearly on each face at the mere mention of such a thing.

The responses were: that’s not legal, the state sets our pay, it is illegal for commissioners to do anything like that we lost our raises the last two years.

And with the tens of thousands already basically wasted at Howard Creek Road, it is commendable that money has been set aside to offer counseling to displaced employees.

I feel this is just one more instance of serving the few and ruling the many. Clearly county-wide voting could benefit the overall health and well-being of our county. We need representatives willing to be part of the solution and not aggravating the problem.

I encourage all citizens to attend county commission meetings held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month.
