April Fooled
Taxpayers:
Fellow Gulf Countians, the fiscally foolish five have April fooled us.
Recently, several “Letters to the Editor” which were critical of the needless extra expense of placing public notices in the “News Herald” rather than our local “The Star” seemed to have finally gotten through to the commissioners. As you may or may not know, public notices placed in The Star rather than the News Herald saves Gulf County taxpayers about $250 per copy and, at times, around $1,00 per month dependent on the number of notices.
Apparently, however, “measly” savings such as these are apparently irrelevant to district commissioners because they are “at it” again.
On April 9 and April 10, 2010, public notices pertaining to Gulf County were once again placed in Bay County’s News Herald newspaper which costs us about an additional $250 per ad. Total for the month of April so far? An extra $500 big ones. And they are big ones to those of us who bear the burden of inflated taxes. Obviously, however, it is small change to our county commissioners, some of whom don’t have to or choose not to pay their share.
Fellow taxpayers, some of our commissioners have demonstrated that they are clueless when it comes to managing any kind of budget much less the size of a county budget.
How can we ease our burdensome and burgeoning (each day) taxes?
Only you, through the value of your vote, can fire the commissioner who represents your district. Some of us will have the opportunity to do just that this coming November.
Respectfully,
Tom Knoche
