Norman Martin
Norman Mathew Martin, 73, of Port St. Joe, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at a local hospital. He was born in Lakeland, FL on February 7, 1935 to the late Norman Gilbert and Dora Elizabeth Asbell Martin.
Norman was very proud of many things in his life; but his three main things were; his family, his service in the United States Marines, and being an active member of the Masons. One of his great passions was to garden, and grow things for his family to eat. He enjoyed fishing and just being out on the Apalachicola River. He loved animals, and once trained a few wild Hawks to eat out of his hands. His family will miss his great talents, especially his sense of humor.
Left to cherish in his memory are; his loving wife of fifty one years, Margene; two sons, David Martin and his wife Teresa of Panama City, and Norman G. Martin and his wife Alice of Port St. Joe; one daughter, Sandra Carle and her husband Rory of Cumming, GA; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Mike Martin and his wife Dawn of Crestview, and Wayne Martin and his wife Hope of Altha; and two sisters, Lorene Skorup, and Betty McCoy both of Lakland.
Funeral services were held at the Howard Creek Baptist Church on Tuesday, May 20, at 2 p.m. EST with Brother Tim Bailey officiating. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. EST Monday, May 19, in the chapel of the Port St. Joe funeral home. Burial took place at the Holly Hill Cemetery with Masonic burial rights.
