Souse

Dear Editor:

Of my most enduring memories of Port St. Joe – the place I was born and raised – were the people who shaped my life.  We lost such a person last week with the recent passing of Paul Sewell.

Mr. Sewell – “Souse Head” as he made all of us call him -- never missed an opportunity to support our school, our teams and our students.  He never missed an opportunity to make us laugh or show us how proud he was to be a St. Joe Shark.

Those of us who knew him in his prime will never forget his humor or his heart.  There was never a bigger fan of those of us who were fortunate enough to grace the halls of St. Joe High.  Whether it was as a member of the Gulf County School Board or a purple t-shirt wearing Shark basketball fanatic he wore his heart on his sleeve and his team on his back.

He left us all a great example of a true fan and a great friend.

So here’s to a man that loved this community with all his heart and soul.  Here’s to the man who pulled for us on our best and worst day.  Here’s to a man that made us all smile.  Here’s to Paul “Souse Head” Sewell – a truer Shark there never was.

Todd Wilder

Class of 1981
