What is in a Name?

Dear Editor:

By the way it looks of what is printed not much. As a Vietnam Veteran I am really concerned about what I read in our county news.

After the rededication, Veterans Day, November 2007, of the "old" Beacon Hill Park to the newly-named "Veterans Memorial Park of Beacon Hill." The park is still being called only Beacon Hill Park. This county could/would not even pay for the new signs at the park. Our local VFW Post No. 10069, Highland View,, along with donations, approximately $8,000, paid for all costs of the signs.
On May 26, Memorial Day, the new signs were finally installed at a Memorial Day Service. Not one county commissioner came to this service. Why do we have such a lack of pride in this park or for that matter our service veterans?

It seems like only one park in Gulf County counts - location in Honeyville. This park gets all the funds while our new Veterans Memorial Park sits, on a major highway, U.S. 98, with nothing being done.

Also, the park in Highland View remains closed to the public, for over a year, "Due to Construction?"

County-wide voting would solve these and more problems, but that too seems like a dead issue.
