Democratic Party meeting

The next regular monthly scheduled Gulf County Democratic Party meeting will be the first Thursday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. ET at the Port St. Joe Fire Station, 408 Williams Avenue in Port St. Joe.  We welcome your attendance.

 Juvenile Justice Council meeting

The Gulf County Juvenile Justice Council will meet at 3 p.m. ET on Feb. 8 at the Port St. Joe Fire Station, 408 Williams Avenue in Port St. Joe. 

United Way free tax return preparation

The United Way in partnership with the Washington Improvement Group (WIG) will offer free income tax return preparation through April 15. Each year many don’t have access to affordable tax preparation services or are unaware of programs like the Earned Income Tax Credit that can put hundreds of dollars back in your pocket.

If you made $50,270 or less last year you qualify for free income tax preparation.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites will be the Gulf County Senior Citizens Association Center at 120 Library Drive in Port St. Joe and the WIG Complex at 401 Peters Street in Port St. Joe.

The hours at the Senior Citizens Center are 1-6 p.m. ET each Thursday, by appointment only. Please call 229-1642 to make an appointment.

At the WIG Complex, hours are 1-6 p.m. ET each Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following Saturdays: Feb. 11, Feb. 18, March 7 and March 14.

PHP free tax return preparation

Volunteers with People Helping People of Gulf County will offer free tax return preparation from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays starting Jan. 17 and ending April 15.

People Helping People, a non-profit organization, is located at 2010 Parker Avenue in Highland View. For more information call 229-5262.

Amateur Radio Society to offer license exams

The Gulf Amateur Radio Society will be providing license exams on Saturday, Feb. 11 at the EOC Building in Port St. Joe, located behind the Gulf County Courthouse, at 10 a.m. ET.

Those interested in getting a ham license or upgrading a present license should contact C.H. Tillis at 850-648-8251 for details and registration.

Valentine's Beauty Pageant canceled

The Gulf County Senior Citizens Association in Wewahitchka has regretfully canceled the Valentine's Beauty Pageant that was to be held on Feb. 11. We will be back in February 2013 even bigger and better than ever, so make your plans.
