Enforce the Rules
Rules that are not enforced are useless. This is something I learned at an early age. Evidently, this is a foreign concept to the commissioners of Port St. Joe and Gulf County.
In the June 19 edition of The Star, Tom Knoche was upset that garbage receptacles remained on the right of way after collection even though an ordinance was enacted July 12, 2005.
In the July 3 edition of The Star, Marie Logan wrote about trash issues in Port St. Joe. One being trash receptacles being left on the street.
About five years ago I discussed this with Commissioner Jerry Barnes. At that time, Gulf County had no ordinance, but now they do and it is not being enforced. About four years ago the city commission admitted that they did not know how to enforce their law. They still don't. Why pass laws and not enforce them?
Also, on Tuesday, July 8, the Port Authority had a ribbon cutting at their new location. Unfortunately, the people attending this event took all of the parking spaces for CVS Pharmacy, Quest Diagnostics, and Dollar General. I would suggest that any future meetings use the lots in the marina development and not take up spaces for retail businesses in the shopping center.
