The Class of 2010
~ County Schools Graduate more than 140; Nearly $1 million in scholarships awarded~
The purple draped seniors of Port St. Joe High School revved themselves up on Monday night with a round of applause worthy of a pep rally.
On Saturday, the red robed seniors of Wewahitchka High School entered the school gymnasium to a phalanx of photographers worthy of a movie premiere red carpet.
The weekend was a time of closing one chapter and beginning a new one for more than 140 county high school seniors as graduation exercises were held at both ends of the county.
Gyms were filled to capacity – the newly painted walls and new bleachers at Wewahitchka seeming to brighten the entire night – and smiles, hugs and a few tears were in abundance as the seniors grabbed their sheepskins and left high school behind.
The mood at both schools was giddy, which seemed only appropriate as one senior noted as he donned his robe on Monday night.
“I’m feeling pretty good,” said Port St. Joe graduate Krystian Paul Churchill Kelley. “On a day like today, that’s the only way to feel, right?”
More apt words are elusive as we tick off the honor roll of graduates, including those who finished with honors or high honors, and scholarships handed out on two nights of celebration.
