What do you order to drink when you have 70-degree weather at the beach in December? Well, if you visit Christine Knab at The Crab Trap in Destin, you may get a Crab Trap Candy Cane Daiquiri.

“We wanted to do something pepper-minty, something that tastes like Christmas and feels like Christmas,” Knab said of her seasonal signature sip. “This is what we will serve through the holidays here at The Crab Trap in Destin.”

Knab said the outdoor Gulf-side bar at The Crab Trap in Destin is known for its frozen cocktails and for its signature drinks.

“In the summer, we predominantly do frozen drinks,” she said. “We also do daily and weekly drink specials, and we like to give them cool names. We are big on holiday drinks … if there is a holiday, we come up with something!”

When asked what her favorite aspect of the job is, Knab said it would have to be its flexibility.

“I’m going to school to be a special education teacher, and it’s a flexible job,” she said. “I don’t get locked inside from 9 to 5. Here, I get to see the sunset everyday on the beach. It’s very calming working here.”

Knab noted that while most bartending jobs attract customers needing a pick-me-up, The Crab Trap is the exception.

“Everybody is happy when they come to the beach,” she said. “It’s not like an airport bar where everyone is miserable. You come to the beach to relax.”
