Clarifying SHH bill

Last week there was published a letter to the editor regarding Sacred Heart Hospital in Port St. Joe. I serve on the Advisory Board of the hospital. I became aware of the patient’s concern several weeks ago, and checked into the matter. The local hospital management reviewed the billing with the doctor, nursing staff and administrative personnel. In addition the billing was sent to Pensacola for a re-analysis and a review by the compliance department. It has been determined that the charges are accurate and appropriate. A representative called the patient and explained the findings. Medical billings are complicated and are not easy to understand. However, in this case the billing is correct for the services received.

The other patient mentioned in the letter that had their bill reduced at the time of leaving the hospital was also investigated by staff. That bill was not adjusted because of an error; a discount was applied and the bill was reduced for immediate payment upon discharge. This discount is available to all that pay cash/check upon discharge.

I do not want to see the image of our hospital tarnished because of misinformation. We are very fortunate to have the healing ministry of Sacred Heart Hospital in our community providing top-quality healthcare and compassion for the sick, in addition to providing much needed jobs for our community.
