The December 2013 issue of AARP Bulletin published an interesting article in its Health Shots section.
The title is Boomerang Chicken and it states “The U.S. Department of Agriculture is now permitting slaughtered U.S. and Canadian chickens to be processed in China and then exported back to the States” – Elizabeth Anvall and Candy Sagon.
I have two questions.
How do we know that the chickens sent to China for processing are the same ones returned here?
Will the Chinese-processed chickens have to be labeled “Processed in China” by the stores selling this chicken, including Walmart, Publix as well as Kentucky Fried Chicken?
On the surface it may seem that the Department of Agriculture is just catering to the companies marketing chickens to the American public – but on the other hand it could have serious consequences.
