This past weekend marked a notable date that none of us should ever forget – Veterans Day weekend is a time to honor and memorialize our Veterans, some who gave all.
St. Joe Bay Golf Club celebrates this weekend with a golf tournament to benefit the Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle. This Camp was in Carrabelle and is on the Florida World War II Heritage Trail.
On Friday evening there was a gathering that was so poorly attended I was embarrassed for the lack of interests in this veteran-heavy community. There was great food, inexpensive beverages, a silent auction of some really great stuff, live music with George Boyer and Cletus Heaps and great fellowship with folks with a love and respect for all our veterans. All for Camp Gordon Johnston. I have already found the fellow whose old dog tag I bought and it will be in the mail to him on Monday. Using the internet I found his son with no hard work at all and they are so happy.
Last year the dog tag we had belonged to an 84-year-old gentleman from South Dakota and he was so happy as he had lost all of his WWII “stuff.” His thank you letter is now on display at the museum.
Next year, pay more attention and plan to attend a fun and patriotic evening at St. Joe Bay Golf Club. You missed a lot of fun and fellowship and failed to support a great cause.
