EARTHQUAKES AND MORE !

Scripture has much to say about earthquakes happening before the return of Jesus Christ. (Matthew 24:7, Mark 13.8, Luke 21:11. Revelation 6:12)  The recent huge earthquakes in Haiti, and Chile, have many wondering, if there is a relationship between these earthquakes, and what will be seen, just before Christ’s coming.

Recent news reports have reminded us, that there was a time, when the land area of the earth was one super continent.  Earthquakes, and volcanoes, tend to occur along the borders, where the present continents were connected, before the earth was divided.  Most modern scientists claim, that’s the way it was about 225 million years ago.  A literal reading of the Bible comes up with about 4700 years ago.  This is one of those rare occasions, where the Bible and modern scientists agree. The disagreement is mostly a matter of WHEN the land area was divided.

It was about 50 years ago, when I first asked a geology professor, how he knew how old a fossil was.  His reply was by looking at the dates for the strata in which the fossils were found.  I then asked how he knew the dates for the strata.  His reply was,-  by looking at the age of the fossils found in the strata.

This nonsense has since been replaced by something called radiometric dating.  It starts with an invalid assumption, and then follows with invalid conclusions based upon that initial assumption.

Before we explore the time, when the Bible indicates this division into our present day continents occurred, it is important to note, that there are a number of factors, which can adequately explain the long ages that people lived before, and shortly after, the flood.  It could be that God supernaturally changed the human DNA, or that the environment was different.  Less radiation at the earth’s surface, before the flood, due to a vapor canopy, could explain the longer ages also.  Either one of these changes, could have been easily accomplished, by the God who created the universe, and everything in it.

According to Genesis 10:25, Eber, a great, great grandson of Noah named one of his sons Peleg (which means division) because in his days the earth was divided.  Eber was born 67 years after the flood, and lived a total of 464 years.  Peleg was born when Eber was 34 years old.  This means that the division into continents occurred around 111 years after the flood.

Some have mistakenly equated the division into continents, with the confusion of tongues, at the tower of Babel.  There is nothing in scripture to substantiate that.  And, a historical book, the book of Jasher, mentioned twice in the Bible, as a worthy source,- in Joshua 10:13 and 2nd Samuel 1:18, records the division as coming some time after the tower of Babel incident.  See Jasher 7:19.  An English translation of the book of Jasher can easily be found on the web.

If a person considers all of the evidence, Biblical and otherwise, it is certainly likely that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah, will be coming soon, for His elect.

If He came tomorrow, would you be ready?  Would you be embarrassed, because He would find you doing something, which you shouldn’t be doing?  Or, would He find you following His commandments - loving God, and your neighbor as yourself?
