The annual Community Christmas dinner is coming up this weekend. The prep work and packaging of meals will take place at Oak Grove Church.

Organizers of the effort, which resulted in 1,000 meals delivered to the needy of Gulf County on Thanksgiving, encourage volunteers to come on out, bring the kids and a make it a day of fun and service.

Volunteers are needed to cut, package and box cakes for the 1,000-plus plates that will be assembled on Christmas. Volunteers will gather at 10 a.m. ET Saturday, Christmas Eve, at Oak Grove Church.

The church is located at 613 Madison Ave. in Port St. Joe.

Volunteers are also needed to slice more than 65 turkeys and then pan and store them. That work will also start at 10 a.m. ET Saturday, Dec. 24. Beginning at 8 a.m. ET on Sunday, Dec. 25, volunteers will assemble tables, placing all items needed for the preparation and distribution of the turkey dinners. Anyone that would like to come in as part of the early crew is asked to call Jim or Bunnie Gainnie at 227-1272.

Donations are also needed and appreciated.

Any business, organization or individual that would like to help the group effort to reach out to the community is asked to send donations to Oak Grove Church Community Dinner, P.O. Box 967, Port St. Joe, FL 32457.

The hundreds of volunteers who participate in these community dinners wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.
