Germaine V. Nora passed away on Monday, January 30, 2017 at the home of her daughter surrounded by her family. Gerry was born to Frank and Germaine V. (Brien) Peters on July 7, 1926 in Iron Mountain, Michigan. When she was in High School, her family moved to nearby Norway, Michigan where she eventually met her beloved husband, Donald J. Nora. Before her marriage, she attended secretarial school in Chicago and began working in healthcare.

After marrying Don in Norway, they moved so that Don could finish his engineering degree at Purdue University. The couple then returned to Michigan and started their own family. They eventually settled in the Detroit area. Gerry was active with the Catholic Church, and enjoyed all types of crafting including needlepoint, knitting, sewing and making the “pot-scrubbers” she eventually became known for. She returned to work as a medical office receptionist when all the children were in school. The couple built their retirement home on a small lake near Kalkaska, Michigan. Upon retirement, they also became “snowbirds” and spent their winters in Florida to spend time with their daughter Donna and her family. Gerry permanently moved to Florida in 2012. She lived in Mexico Beach and then later in Panama City.

Gerry often said that she was proud that she and Don were able to send all their children to college. She was a quiet woman who never liked the limelight. She loved nothing more than just being with her family and friends. She loved visiting, reading, playing cards and working on puzzles.

Gerry was preceded in death by her beloved husband Donald who passed away in 1994, her parents, and her twin brothers William and Walter Peters. She mourned the deaths of two of her children, Barbara Sorenson and Dr. Paul Nora. At 90 years of age at her death, most of her extended family and family also preceded her in death. She is survived by daughters Donna (Michael) Elmore and Patricia (Alireza) Abbasabadi. Also mourning her passing are her pride and joy, granddaughters Rebecca Jorgensen and Karen Elmore and great-granddaughters Alexis Jorgensen and Sienna Doorbal. Also surviving her are her sister in law, Doris Peters, nieces Sandra Dickman, Karen Peters, Joan Scott, Annette Heller, Carol Roth and Sharon Sepic, nephews David Peters, Thomas Peters, John Nora and James Nora and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

There will be a memorial service in Michigan at a later date. Donations may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Mission, P.O. Box 820, Port St. Joe, Florida 32457, or a charity of your choice. Thanks to Brookdale Assisted Living, Bay Medical Center, Emerald Coast Hospice, Dr. Eisa, Dr. Bone, Dr. Nunez and Dr. Walker who provided loving care.
