The first annual reef benefit to honor all military and veterans, “Reefs for Military,” will be held 2-10 p.m. CT Feb. 26 at Rustic Sands Campground in Mexico Beach.

The events is being held in association with the Mexico Beach Artificial Reef Association.

The opening ceremony will be performed by Neal James and the Port St. Joe Jr./Sr. High School NJROTC cadets with a host of music over the day.

Artists performing include Buddy Hamm, the Gary Allman Band, Randy & Art, Big Bear Barry Henson & Hurricane Donnie, Sharon Call, Rockin Randall, Flabbergasted and Denise Burkett.

The music headliners will finish the day with a jam session.

There will be t-shirts and koozies for sale, raffles, including a 50/50 raffle and barbecue plates for $10.

The Tiki Bar will be open.

The goal of the event is to purchase an artificial reef from the MBARA.

Shares will be sold for $20 to all active military and veterans. All of those who purchase shares will be part-owner of the reef.

All proceeds from the sale of the barbecue plates, raffles and other items will be applied to the purchase of a reef.

The organizing committee is seeking donations for the cost of the food, the purchase of the reef to honor someone currently serving in the military or a veteran and donations for use in the raffles.
