Gulf County Democrats will hold their second meeting 7 p.m. ET March 20 at the Senior Citizen Center, 120 Library Drive in Port St. Joe.

Cheryl Ploegstra, former Enterprise Information Architect for BP, will talk about how social media can be used to strengthen the groups ability to communicate among themselves, as well as reaching out to and providing information to others. Since the last meeting, Ploegstra and Jennifer Corbin, both residents of St. Joe Beach, have already established a Gulf County Democrats' Facebook page. The address is Ploegstra, will served as the IT Coordinator for the group.

As local Democrats begin building for the future, Indian Pass resident and local attorney, Shannon Stallings will lead a discussion on electing officers and the 18 Committeemen and Committeewomen who will make up the Gulf County Democratic Executive Committee(GDEC). Because men and women representatives from each voting precinct are needed to fill these positions the planning committee is urging all Democrats and interested Independents to attend.

Hoping for an even larger turnout for this meeting, Carolyn Witten said, " We have designed a way for us to get to know each other a little better before we start choosing our leadership. With almost 70 people at the last meeting we realized there were a lot of new faces and lots of talented people we needed to get to know."

Nancy Luther will lead a getting to know you exercise as the group prepares for elections at their April meeting.

The meeting will conclude with newcomer David Alvarez challenging every attendee to get involved, join the local party, volunteer for a position, run for office. New to Port St. Joe and new to political activism, Alvarez will also talk to the group about why he became involved in this effort.

The planning group is hoping for an even larger turnout for this meeting. For questions or additional information call Michael McKenzie, 662-312-1110, Lyn Willis, 609-2033-4341, Zebe Schmitt, 227-4296, or Evelyn Cox, 639-2496.
