Ernest Harrell "Bill" Gant., Sr. was born in Port Saint Joe, Florida on June 12, 1945 to the late Chester Gant, Sr. and Lela Gant. He was preceded in death by his siblings Chester Gant, Jr., Annie Lee Baker, Paul Gant, Sr., and Naomi Lewis.

Bill accepted Christ in his life and became a member of Zion Fair Baptist Church at an early age. He was a dedicated and committed member who served his church, community, and country faithfully. He served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Chaplain of Choir #1, President of the Concerned Christian Society, and was a member of the Community Male Chorus. He was always willing and ready to answer the call whenever asked.

Bill graduated from Washington High School in 1963 serving as Vice-President of his senior class. Upon graduation from high school he attended Florida Norman and Industrial Memorial College in Saint Augustine, Florida. After leaving college in 1964 he enlisted in the United States Army where he served from 1964 until 1967. He served as Staff Sergeant in the United States Army Reserve in the 525th Unit until his retirement in 1994.

Bill was employed as a police officer and later as a dispatcher with the City of Port Saint Joe Police Department. He retired from the Ciry of Port Saint Joe Police Department in 2007 after 26 years of service.

Bill leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, Gloria Quinn-Gant; his children, Ernest Harrell (Mamie) Gant, Jr., Gabriel (Keisha) Kimble, Randall Gant, John Patrick (Shannon) Gant, Eric (LaKitha) Langston, and Cheskia (Melanie) Gant; his brothers, Adrian (Mae Ella) Gant, Sr., Moses (Waddie) Gant, and Dr. Raymond (Dr. Lenora) Gant; his sisters-in-law, Linda Gant, Vivian (Claude) Jones, and Deneise Quinn-Hall; his brothers-in-law, Billy Charles (Cheryl) Quinn, Jr., Sandy (Beverly) Quinn, Sr., Willie Quinn, Sr., Michael (Bertha) Quinn, Sr., Terry (Tina) Quinn, Sr., and Christpoher Quinn; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Services were held at 1 p.m. EST Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Zion Fair Baptist Church with interment following in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Services were under the direction of Comforter Funeral Home.
