On Feb. 27, Willard Watson and Tom Semmes, booster members for GFWC Wewahitchka Woman's Club, in partnership with the City of Wewahitchka, raised new flags and added a POW flag at the Veterans Monument in Wewahitchka. Maintaining the flags at the Veterans Monument is a continuing project of the GFWC Wewahitchka Woman's Club.

On March 7, members of the club's Conservation Committee met to discuss issues impacting our environment, and ways to engage the community in helping to preserve, maintain, and restore our precious natural resources. The GFWC Wewahitchka Woman's Club is challenging each of you to participate in Earth Hour 2017 on Saturday, March 25, when all the world will come together to show support for action in protecting our amazing planet. At 8.30 p.m., your local time on this date, millions of people, businesses, and landmarks across the world will switch their lights off in a symbolic show of global support. One hour out of your time can do so much. Let's all give 60 minutes to protect the planet! Remember, let's turn up the dark for this year's Earth Hour at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 25.

Another challenge to you is to turn off your electrical appliances when they are not in use to stop phantom energy. Electronics which are left on standby can account for up to 10 percent of home electricity usage. By eliminating consumption of phantom energy you will save money on energy bills and help the planet at the same time.

A very popular Fundraiser for the Wewahitchka Woman's Club is our annual BBQ Pulled Pork Dinners. Mark your calendars now for our next event, Friday, April 7, 2017, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. CT at the Glad Tidings Church Fellowship Hall. Members will be contacting individuals and businesses to purchase dinners in advance.

If you would like to learn more about all the exciting programs and projects coming up this year, join us at our regular monthly meeting, the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. CT at the Glad Tidings Church Fellowship Hall in Wewahitchka. Our next meeting is Tuesday, April 11.
