1938- E.W. Marler, the assistant light keeper at Cape San Blas Light, was found murdered by his six year old daughter. Mauler received 15 stab and cut wounds and a knife and hatchet were found at the scene. The murder was never solved.
1945- Mrs. Viola Nichols received the Bronze Star Medal awarded posthumously to her son, Pvt. Jesse M. Nichols, at a ceremony in Port St. Joe. Nichols was killed in action in France.
1955- Reid Ave. gets its first stoplight at the corner of 3rd Street.
1966- The Port St. Joe Post Office received a Rand Mailster. The three-wheeled vehicle took the place of a bicycle on a route.
1972- The Port St. Joe Sharks captured the state basketball title in the same year as the football squad.
1981- The Sharks again won the basketball title, this time with a team that had no players above six feet tall.
1998- Record floods hit Gulf County.
