The Franklin/Gulf Retired Edcators’ Association is pleased to announce the winner of its annual essay contest. Danica Kelly, a fifth-grade student at Port St. Joe Elementary School submitted the winning essay. Danica is a student in Mrs. Taylor’s class. Her essay, “A Special Time with Grandma,” recounts her grandmother and the visits which made them both so happy. Danica received a cash award and her essay was submitted to the next level of judging.

The F/GREA sponsors this annual essay contest in conjunction with the Florida Retired Educators’ Association. The purpose of the contest is to encourage writing and recognize the special relationship between young people and grandparents.

F/GREA is a group composed of retired educators in Franklin and Gulf counties. Its purpose is to keep retirees engaged with their peers and to encourage their participation in the community through volunteerism, mentoring students and providing scholarship opportunities for prospective teachers.
