1939- Port St. Joe High graduates 16 students. Annie Mae Boyette, Allah Mae Darcey, Alice Ruth Gibson, Winifred Harris, Winston Jones, Betty Lewis, Brady Nell, Kathleen Saunders, Ausley Stoutamire, Leila Smith, Virginia Stoutamire, Howard Taunton, William Trawick, Sara Van Horn, Preston White, and Myrtle Whittaker.
1950- Out of 3,359 registered voters in Gulf County only 12 were republicans.
1962- Two workers at the Glidden Chemical Company Plant, Henry I. Rish and Lloyd J. Husband, were killed by asphyxiation. Rish had succumbed to gases and Husband had entered the tank car where Rish was in an attempt to save him. Both men were from Wewahitchka.
1970- U.S. Army reservists practice amphibious maneuvers of St. Joseph’s Peninsula. Over 1,500 troops were involved along with trucks, amphibious vessels, and helicopters.
1983- Pauline Mouchette closes her restaurant and retires. “Pauline’s” was located on Reid Ave. but had multiple locations over 24 years. They were famous for their pies.
