Dr. Lila Karen Gunter was born on November 26, 1957, to the union of James and Eunice Gunter in Port St. Joe, FL. Lila was educated in the Port St. Joe Public School System.

After her high school graduation Lila attended the University of Florida, where she attained both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nursing. While there she also became an active member of the Crossroads Church of Christ.

Lila eventually relocated to metro-Atlanta where she was employed with Grady Memorial Hospital. During her employment with Grady, Lila had the opportunity to travel the world providing medical care and supplies to those in need.

Always committed to learning and serving, Lila completed her PhD program in the field of Nursing this past spring at Georgia State University. Her goal was to use her degree to train a new generation of nurses in the area of Pain Management.

Dr. Lile Karen Gunter departed this life on Friday, April 21, 2017. She was preceeded in death by her father, James A. Gunter.

She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Mrs. Eunice Gunter, Mrs. Sherry Steadham (a close family friend) and a host of friends, church members and co-workers.

She is entombed in Holly Hill Cemetery in Port St. Joe, FL.
