1938- Funds are awarded by the federal government to build a civic center in Port St. Joe which would become the Centennial Building. The federal government gave $35, 246 in the form of a WPA project, the city put in $37,000.

1944- Residents of Port St. Joe are awakened by sirens and whistles at 5:30 in the morning. Some feared an air raid. The sirens and whistles were sounded to announce the landing of allied forces on D-Day.

1951- War department notifies Mr. and Mrs. J.C Evans that their son, Roy “Buddy” Evans had been killed in action in Korea on May 18.

1968- A jet fighter from Tyndall AFB crashes off St. Joe Beach. The pilot, 1st Lt. Olin E. Gilbert, Jr. was killed. Gilbert had recently returned from Vietnam and was training at Tyndall.

1981- George Tapper receives an honorary doctorate degree from the University of West Florida.
