The Port St. Joe Dixie Youth AA all-star team swept the recent District 4 tournament in Port St. Joe and will travel to the state tournament in Sebring July 1-4.
The Port St. Joe team beat Wewahitchka 12-0 and Franklin County 7-6 in early-round games and beat Franklin County again 12-2 in the championship game.
On the team’s roster are six players who were with the team last year when it advanced to the state Final Four.
In the tournament, the leading hitters for Port St. Joe were Kaden Brown (8 for 9 and scored five runs), Cade Costin (7 for 9 with six runs), Eli Harris (6 for 9 with four runs) and Terrell Williams (6 for 8 with five runs).
Angel Mace was 4 for 8 with three runs, Stratton Levins was 3 for 6 with three turns, Zay Jenkins was 5 for 6 with two runs and Easton Buchanan was 4 for 6 with a run scored.
“The team also played exceptional defense throughout the tournament,” said Head Coach Mark Costin.
The trip to Sebring, Costin added, will be “very costly.”
The team is selling banner ads that will be hung on the dugout during the upcoming state tournament and the local fields next season.
There are three levels of sponsorship:
Gold Level: logo on top of the banner, size 8-by-24 inches, $500; Silver Level: logo in the middle of the banner, 4-by-12 inches, $300; and Bronze Level: logo at bottom of the banner, 2-by-6 inches, $150.
Costin added that the team will accept any donation and “would greatly appreciate any support that you could provide our team.”
