1940- Between 1930 and 1940 the population of GulfCountymore than doubles from 3,182 to 6,926. The population of Port St. Joe jumped from 851 to 2,372.

1959- Capt. R.J Anderson, a Port St. Joe resident of 30 years passes away. Anderson, who was born in Alabama in 1853, had sailed on all of the world’s oceans and spoke a bit in 11 different languages.

1966- James “Buddy” Smith signs a contract with the St. Louis Cardinals. The 1965 graduate of Port St. Joe High School would go on to play five seasons of minor league ball.

1977- Thousands of dead menhaden, also known as pogey fish, wash up on the shore along Constitution Drive in Port St. Joe. The kill was one of several that happened along the Gulf coast that year.

1996- The Olympic Torch passes through Wewahitchka on its way to Atlanta.
