Kristen Bird, a recent graduate of Port St. Joe Jr. /Sr. High School was recognized last week at the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C.

Bird was chosen to represent Florida’s 2nd Congressional District in the annual Congressional Art Contest.

Her work, “"In the Eyes of an American,” was chosen from work submitted by schools throughout the district.

The piece, which features a reflection of the Marine Corps War Memorial in the artist’s eye, will now hang in the Capitol Building.

Bird’s selection is the second for Port St. Joe Jr. / Sr. High School in the past five years.
