On July 1, 2017, God took Herbert Shelton "Smitty" Smith home to be reunited with his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth Charlene Odom Smith. Smitty was the first child born to Robert "Big Bob" Smith and Mary Smith and grew up in White City. He was a member of the Port St Joe High School Class of 1965. After a 36 year career with BellSouth/AT&T, Smitty and his family returned to White City.

Smitty was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his sister Anita Smith.

He is survived by his children, Lauren and Keith Hanley of White City, and Herbert Stephen and Amy Smith of Panama City; his grandchildren, Josie and Jon Latshaw of Deland, Codi and Michael Johnson of Howard Creek, Joshua Sundie of White City, Seth Smith and Danyel' (DJ) Smith both of Panama City; a great-grandson Jackson Johnson of Douglasville, GA; one brother, Murry and Eudora Smith; and many, many more family and friends.

Services were held at 11 a.m. EDT on Friday, July 7, 2017, at White City Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Nick Davis with interment following in Holly Hill Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Comforter Funeral Home.
