The Port St. Joe Jr./Sr. High School cheerleading squads participated in the recent three-day UCA (Universal Cheerleaders Association) Stunt Camp at Florida State University.

The camp is geared to allowing teams to learn new stunts and compete.

Both the varsity and junior-varsity squads placed first in the “extreme routine” championships.

The varsity received first place in the contest, with a stunt group of Lexie Plair, Ashton Childress, Kelsie Burke, and Kharisma Langston’ and took second in the full contest, with the stunt group of Kyndell Moore, Quinci Elphinstone, Jireh Gant, and Aaliyah Morrison.

The junior varsity earned third in the full contest behind the stunt group of Ava Ryan, Gabriella Price, Hannah Tomlinson, and Madelyn Gortemoller.

Three girls, Kelsie Burke (varsity), Lexie Plair (varsity) and Ava Ryan (junior varsity), received “Pin it Forward” awards and four were chosen for "All American": Lexie Plair, Ashton Childress (varsity), Kharisma Langston (varsity), and Ava Ryan.

The squad also earned the right to bring “home the banana.”

An inflatable banana that is given each day to the squad with most spirit. The team that gets it the last day gets to take it home and thus signals they had the most spirit.

The varsity squad: Coach Ashley Payne, Ashton Childress, Lexie Plair, De'Amber Rolack, Kelsie Burke, Quinci Elphinstone, Haylee Bonner, Bryanna Kinney, Kharisma Langston, Janiyah Spires, Justice Barfield, Jireh Gant,

Aalyiah Morrison, Rainey Nobles and Hannah Smith.

The junior varsity squad: Coach Allisyn Hartough, Madelyn Gortemoller, Ava Ryan, Hannah Tomlinson, Lauren Jones, Gabriella Price, Brooklyn Sheppard and Addison Watts.
