1939- What is now Highway 22 is opened, cutting the trip from Wewahitchka to Panama City from 61 to 28 miles.

1946- Two fist fights break out in the stands of a local county rivalry game between the Port St. Joe Saints and the Wewahitchka Gators. The two teams were part of a regional amateur baseball league.

1959- A mystery armadillo makes its way through Port St. Joe. It was discovered that the animal was brought up from South Florida and released after it wouldn’t eat in captivity.

1964- Hennessy Five-Star the First dies. The dog was the pet of George Tapper, but was famous for being the only Saint Bernard to be president of a company, the Hennessy Oil Co. of Port St. Joe. It is said that Hennessy could sign his own checks and he was featured in two Florida business magazines.

1976- The Port St. Joe library is named for Corrine Costin Gibson. Gibson was central in historical and cultural efforts in the county and the construction of the library.
