Want to know more about the Gulf Coast Box Turtle? Join us at 11 a.m. ET Aug. 11 at the St Joseph Bay State Buffer Preserve to learn about the research being conducted on the Gulf Coast Box Turtle. Jessica Meck, an Antioch University New England graduate student, has been studying the home range and habitat selection of the Gulf Coast Box Turtle since 2016 with the American Turtle Observatory. Jessica will be discussing some of her findings and the unique characteristics of this subspecies of box turtle that many find in their own backyard!
Jessica’s program begins after the Second Friday Tram Tour on Aug. 11. There is a short history presentation at 9 a.m. ET in the Visitor Center. The TRAM Tour follows immediately and lasts for about an hour and one-half. Jessica’s program will begin after folks have a chance to freshen up from the Tram Tour.
It’s hot – so it is recommended that visitors bring a hat, sunglasses, water and of course, a camera. Close-toed shoes are recommended just in case you want to get off the tram to see a plant or animal up close. You never know what you might see on the tram ride.
If you have questions about the presentations or Tram Tour please call Sandra at 229-1787, Ext. 1.
