Lose in title game by one

The Port St. Joe Jr./Sr. High School girls basketball team traveled to Thomasville, GA over the Christmas Break, losing by a single point in the title game.

The Lady Tiger Sharks stand 11-2 overall, 3-0 in District 2-1A entering the new year.

They start a four-game home stand when they host Liberty County at 4:30 p.m. ET today.

Port St. Joe hosts Franklin County at 5 p.m. Friday, Bozeman at 5 p.m. Saturday and Arnold at 4:30 p.m. Monday.


Port St. Joe 55, Bozeman 33

Before the Christmas break, the Lady Tiger Sharks traveled to district foe Bozeman.

Port St. Joe was up 27-24 at the half, the narrowest halftime margin in nine games.

From there, it was all Port St. Joe.

Teiyahna Hutchinson led Port St. Joe with 22 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, six steals and one block.

Sha'Mario Cole added eight points, Jae Lenox seven points and three rebounds and Mimi Larry six points.

Brooklynn Quinn chipped in with five points, seven rebounds, nine assists, three steals and a block and Te Te Croom added five points.


Port St. Joe 49, Brookwood 38

In the opening round of the Christmas Tournament hosted by Thomasville Brookwood, the Lady Tiger Sharks opened against the host team.

Port St. Joe built a 30-14 lead which Brookwood trimmed to 35-24 after three quarters but the Lady Tiger Sharks pulled away.

Hutchinson and Quinn filled the stat sheet.

Hutchinson had 17 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals and Quinn added 17 points, 14 rebounds and three assists.

Lenox had six points, two rebounds and two steals, Larry added four points and four rebounds and Croom chipped in three points and six rebounds.


Port St. Joe 39, Bozeman 26

On the tourney’s second day, Port St. Joe faced district rival Bozeman in a non-district game and a tournament semifinal.

Port St. Joe jumped to a 22-13 lead and pulled away.

Hutchinson again led the way with 17 points, three rebounds, four assists and three steals, Lenox added eight points and three steals and Quinn had eight points, five assists, four steals and two blocks.

Coles had four points and four steals and Larry added two points.


Westwood 49, Port St. Joe 48

A missed shot at the buzzer was the difference in a tight game for the tournament title.

The teams were knotted at 10-all after the first quarter with Westwood pulling out to a 25-20 lead at halftime.

It was 37-36 Westwood after three periods and 49-45 Westwood with 20 seconds remaining.

Lenox drained a 3-pointer to pull Port St. Joe within one and after a timeout Cole stole a pass and Port St. Joe dribbled across half-court and called timeout.

A late shot was just short.

Hutchinson (named to the All-Tournament Team) had 18 points, nine rebounds, three assists, five steals and two blocks.

Lenox added 10 points and four steals, Quinn chipped in eight points, eight rebounds, seven assists, five steals and two blocks and Coles had six points and three steals.

Aliyah Johnson added four points and four rebounds and Larry two points and three rebounds.
