Parade begins at 10 a.m.

 

For the second consecutive year, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday will enjoy a festive start.

The annual commemorative parade in Port St. Joe will begin at 10 a.m. ET Monday, threading its way down Reid Ave, to First Street, Dr. David Langston Drive, MLK Blvd. and ending at Avenue G.

The parade line-up be at 9 a.m. ET at Port St. Joe City Hall.

Organizers pronounce that “everyone is an invited guest” and the mission of the day’s festivities is “working together to make the greatest nation better.”

The parade is the beginning of a daylong celebration in memory of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his legacy.

A program will begin at 12 p.m. ET at the Washington High Gymnasium with free food, socializing, youth sacred dance presentations and a keynote speaker.

The day is about “community-wide togetherness and we support our troops.”

Community service organizations are encouraged to establish an informational booth or table at the Washington High Gym.

Annual MLK program at Zion Fair

The 47th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., 2018 Birthday Celebration will be held at Zion Fair Missionary Baptist Church 6 p.m. ET Monday.

The entire community is welcome to come together as “one human body of people honoring Dr. King’s legacy by portraying the characters on the Montgomery Bus Ride Trip.”

Organizers will also keep alive the memory of Sis. Maxine King-Gant, the former MLK program organizer.
