Only unbeaten Class 1A in the Panhandle
The Port St. Joe Jr./Sr. High School boys soccer team continued its unbeaten string, though the Tiger Sharks did allow their first goal in six games.
The Tiger Sharks are 10-0-2 overall, 4-0 in District 1-2A. They are the last unbeaten Class 1A team in the Panhandle.
They honor seniors tonight at 7 p.m. ET against Freeport.
Port St. Joe 2, Tallahassee Godby 2
In the first game after Christmas break, the Tiger Sharks allowed a goal for the first time in three weeks but held on for a tie, the second of the season, at home.
Marlon Lopez put Port St. Joe on the board first with an unassisted early goal but Godby responded in the 39th minute and the game was knotted at 1-1 at halftime.
A goal in the 50th minute put the Cougars on top but Lopez scored again in the 74th minute to complete the scoring.
“We were not at full potential due to illness and missing one starter, however, the boys fought to keep their record as the only team in the Panhandle to stay undefeated,” said Coach Eli Duarte.
Despite allowing a goal for the first time in six game, goalkeeper Joel Bogaert was the man of the match for Port St. Joe with eight saves.
Port St. Joe 5, Rocky Bayou
The Tiger Sharks registered still another shutout for a big district home win.
Lopez scored a natural hat trick in the first half, two goals unassisted and the other via a free kick.
Sophomore Ford Kuhnel scored in the 50th minute to make it 4-0 Port St. Joe and Chris Anderson converted a penalty kick to complete the scoring.
Bogaert made one save before giving way to eighth-grader Aiden Gainer who made two in his varsity debut.
