Coosa Christian jumped out to a 23-5 lead after the first period and never looked back to advance to the Class 1A, Area 11 tournament title game.

The Conquerors (20-8) continued to put the pressure on Ragland throughout much of the game and even weathered a late comeback attempt by the Purple Devils (3-18) in the fourth period to settle for the 65-45 decision.

With the win, Coosa Christian advances to face Appalachian School in the tournament final at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Gadsden. The win also guarantees the Conquerors a sub-regional game next week. This marks the second year in a row Coosa Christian has advanced to the tournament finals.

"We're excited," Conquerors coach Jayme Hollingsworth said of his team's accomplishment. "We have been playing good ball as of late, but we've got to keep moving in the right direction and build on what we accomplish every day."

Claire Davidson led Coosa Christian with 17 points, while India Brown added 10 and Ashton Mills eight points.

Coosa Christian took a 38-19 lead into the half and then built its largest lead of the game — 30 points — by the end of the third period.

With all of the Conquerors' starters watching from the bench, Ragland managed to chip away at Coosa's sizable lead by going to the free throw line 27 times just in the final period. The Purple Devils converted on 14 attempts.

Ragland's Makenzie Campbell led all scorers with 23 points, while fellow Purple Devil Ty'Asia Howard added 13.

Appalachian advanced to the Area 11 tournament final by eliminating Southeastern, 61-45.

Phoeba Wallace led the Eagles with 18 points followed by Anna Grace Dunn with 16 and Cassady Cornelius with nine.

Southeastern was paced by Andrea Zamora with 13 points followed by Brianna Brasfield with 12.
