Annual legislative day
Billy Quinn, Danny Little and Cindy Belin of the Gulf County School Board joined over 125 school board members, district superintendents, and other education leaders in Tallahassee February 7-9, to participate in the Florida School Boards Association’s 31st Annual Day in the Legislature Conference and Board of Directors’ Meeting.
The conference began Wednesday afternoon with a briefing session that provided up-to-the-minute information and status of the major education related bills and funding proposals that are currently under consideration by the Legislature. Thursday morning began with a networking breakfast at which representatives from Governor Scott’s office and legislative leaders were invited to offer their perspective on key issues. This was followed by the opportunity for participants to visit the Capitol, to meet with their respective legislative delegations, and to attend legislative committee meetings.
"This conference provided an excellent opportunity to engage in the legislative process and to meet with our legislators to discuss the education issues that are of interest and concern to the students, parents, and educators in our school district," said Cindy Belin, vice-chair.
"We are proud to celebrate the 31st anniversary of this advocacy event. Since 1930, FSBA has prided itself in being ‘the Voice of Education in Florida,’ and this was well illustrated by the thoughtful and coherent advocacy of school board members during this conference," said FSBA Executive Director Andrea Messina.
