UPDATED: Two dead in Tuesday morning accident

UPDATED _ Two Port St. Joe residents were killed in a single-vehicle accident early Tuesday morning.

According to Gulf County Sheriff Joe Nugent, a carrier for the Panama City News Herald newspaper came upon the accident scene just east of the St. Joseph State Buffer Preserve at 4 a.m. ET.

Adam Kyle Kennedy, 23, and Canda Joy Borden, 22, were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to law enforcement, the two were traveling toward Port St. Joe on C-30A near Heron Bay Lane when the vehicle they were riding in veered off the roadway.

According to law enforcement, Borden was behind the wheel and tried to drive back onto the roadway.

As Borden did so, she overcorrected to the other side of the road and the car began to spin, hitting a pine tree and overturning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Nugent said indications are both Kennedy and Borden died instantly. Neither were wearing a seat belt.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident.

Two people are dead after an auto accident on C-30A near the St. Joseph Bay Buffer Preserve. Around 4 a.m. ET a carrier for the Panama City News Herald came upon the wreck, which was just on the Apalachicola side of the Preserve.

According to preliminary reports, the vehicle the two were riding left the road and as the driver tried to correct, the individual overcorrected off the other side of the road and struck a pine tree.

Both individuals were likely killed instantly, according to Gulf County Sheriff Joe Nugent.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating. The names of the victims have not been released pending notificaton of family.
