Newman named Builder of the Year

On Dec. 3, Steve Newman, owner of Big Fish Construction in Apalachicola, received the prestigious Builder of The Year award from the Forgotten Coast Builder’s Association. The plaque, presented at a gala dinner held at Verandas Bistro in Apalachicola, recognized Newman for his outstanding performance in the building construction business, and commitment to community causes as well as the Forgotten Coast Builders Association. Newman, the association’s 2010 first vice-president, is shown above, at right, with Michael Bloodworth, past president of the association.

The Forgotten Coast Builder’s Association is seeking applicants for its $1,000 college scholarships, presented each year to a Franklin County senior, as well as to a senior in Gulf County. Students need not pursue careers in construction. Secretary Erin Rodriguez said last year only two students applied for the funds. “We would like to see more participation this year,” he said.

To apply for a scholarship or to nominate a student, please call Aaron Watson at 258-0499 or Bloodworth at 323-0079.
